The Department of Biosystems, established in 2026, is an academic unit that brings together researchers in engineering, chemistry, and biology to study, design, and transform complex chemical and biological systems, as well as their interactions with the environment. It conducts both fundamental and applied research, strengthens undergraduate and graduate programs, and fosters engagement with industry and the agricultural sector, thereby contributing to the country’s scientific, technological, and productive development. Its research areas include the development of functional foods and sensory evaluation, the synthesis of carbon-based materials for environmental applications, biomass valorization, environmental microbiology, sustainable livestock production, and the molecular biology of weeds. The department generates original knowledge, trains highly qualified human resources, and promotes the transfer of evidence-based solutions aligned with national priorities and aimed at addressing strategic challenges.
