Organization profile

The mission of the Department of Social Sciences is to contribute to the understanding of the processes of the economic, political, and social reality of the country and the world in order to promote socioeconomic development and the improvement of the quality of life of individuals. Through scientific research, teaching, and outreach, our professors have positioned themselves as a reference in research in various areas of study and specialization in political science, economics, and sociology. The department has a long trajectory in teaching and research in social sciences and economics that has existed since the early nineties at UCU and arises from the merger in 2019 of the Departments of Social and Political Sciences (2012-2019) and Economics (2006-2019). Interdisciplinarity and transversality give it a distinctive attribute at national and regional levels. In the same way, graduates from our Political Science, Economics, Sociology, and Social Work degrees, as well as from our Master's degrees in Public Policy and Public Administration, are received as professors and graduate students by several national and foreign universities and also as professionals and consultants by international cooperation, civil society, market and government organizations.
