Organization profile

The department comprises a community of professors open to students, specialized in the knowledge, updating, and improvement of law as a discipline and Uruguayan law as a legal system, with a humanist, liberal, egalitarian, democratic, and republican vocation. Its members provide teaching services of the highest quality -both undergraduate and graduate- for the excellent training of current and future professionals, advisors, judges, prosecutors, legislators, executive governors, and public officials. On the other hand, the department carries out relevant and timely research and deliberation activities as a contribution to the understanding of legal phenomena and the optimization of law. The professors of the department stand out for their training and experience in research, reflected in their theoretical contributions in various areas of study and specialization, as well as for their contributions to reach proper solutions in legal practice from the referred prism, mainly in constitutional law, human rights, administrative law, labor law, civil law, criminal law, and financial law.
