Organization profile

Since the creation of the Computer Engineering degree in 1986, UCU has promoted excellence in training its graduates. To achieve this goal, the Department of Computer Science promotes the periodic updating of the curricula of its careers. The current curricula are based on the accreditation standards of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and the recommendations of the Association for Computer Machinery (ACM) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers-Computer SocietyI (EEE-CS). It also encourages using new student-centered teaching methodologies to achieve the established competencies and skills. The department has pioneered implementing the Team-Based Learning methodology, where students actively participate. The department's faculty comprises graduate program graduates and leading industry professionals. In addition, within the department's framework, scientific research and extension activities are developed from projects linked to private companies and within the scope of the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) and international agencies. Researchers and professors actively participate in the Information and Communications Technologies for Verticals (ICT4V) center dedicated to linking the capabilities of Uruguay's universities with local companies for the promotion of technological developments. The department encourages students to join these areas or to promote their own ideas based on innovative developments.
