Organization profile

Organization profile

The Department of Engineering arose in 2019 from integrating departments and academic units already developing activities at UCU in the environmental, food, electronics and industrial areas. Its mission is to contribute to the development of fundamental research in engineering and its application to the national industry. Within the department, the following lines of research are carried out: use of by-products and food development; functional foods; sensory evaluation; microelectronics; signal processing; control; biomedical engineering; materials science; industrial water treatment and modeling technologies; remote sensing for environmental monitoring; climate change and smart cities. These research lines develop fundamental and applied research projects in collaboration with industry. For these activities, the department has obtained funds from national and international calls for proposals. The department members are characterized by their commitment to research and knowledge production, quality teaching that integrates research advances, and a strong vocation for working with industry. This good balance between research, teaching, and working with industry is a contribution of the Department of Engineering to national development.
