Alfredo Arnaud (Ph.D, 2004, M.Sc, 2000, Eng.,1997 UdelaR-Uruguay) has been with the Engineering Department at Universidad Católica del Uruguay (UCU) since 2004, when he starts µDIE (http:// die.ucu.edu.uy/microdie), a microelectronics and IoT research Lab. He has published more than 100 scientific papers, has been the advisor of 7 master and 2 Phd thesis, and has participated in more than 25 I+D funded projects. He is co-founder of three active IT companies and has worked in the integrated circuit design for companies in Uruguay, Brazil, the United States, Canada, Belgium, and India. He was honored in 2016 with the Synopsys award for electronics in Latin America. Dr. Arnaud is an IEEE Senior Member, IEEE Analog Signal Processing Technical Committee member; he is a N.III researcher of SNI in Uruguay (National Research Council) and participated in committees of SNI in Uruguay, Panama, and PRONII in Paraguay.

Research interests

Alfredo Arnaud is a researcher in the field of ultra low power electronicas and microelectronics. He has specialized in the development of ASICs aimed at implantable medical applications, IoT, RFID, among others. Some recent developments by microelectronics/IoT team at UCU are: - A SoC for implantable medical devices including a RISC-V core and programmable current sources for biological tissue electrical stimulation, fabricated in a 180nm CMOS-HV technology. - The development of different circuit techniques and modeling of the bulk-linearized MOS transistor and bulk-linearized MOS differential pair. - The development of IoT nodes for the agri-food industry able to transmit for years with a single 1000mA·h primary battery; some of these sensors are a motion sensor for oestrus detection in cattle, GPS geolocation of animals, a temperature and humidity sensor for THI monitoring; these sensors utilize different LPWAN technologies such as NBIoT, Sigfox, or LoRa.
