Research interests
His research interests focus on transport and society studies, including social aspects of transportation, daily mobility, public transportation, and urban development. His research agenda includes studies on territorial accessibility to different types of urban opportunities, primarily jobs but also education and health opportunities. It also covers transport affordability, or the ability to pay and the effects of various fare mechanisms, as well as the analysis of space-time constraints families have to face to access social services. In the analysis of accessibility to urban opportunities, as well as public transportation policies, he emphasizes equity and distribution aspects, as well as their role in social development and well-being.
Personal profile
He holds a degree in Sociology from the Universidad Catolica del Uruguay (1999), an MA in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2003), and a PhD in Urban Studies from the Universidad Católica de Chile (2012). As a Full Professor in the Department of Social Sciences at the Universidad Católica del Uruguay, he has authored and coauthored numerous research works in the fields of transportation and social sciences. His contributions have been featured in academic journals, book chapters, working papers, and technical reports. Additionally, he has worked as a consultant for national and international institutions, including CAF, BID, UNDP, ECLAC, and ONU-Habitat. Currently, he is the director of the Master of Arts in Public Policy and Master of Arts in Public Administration.
