Research interests

Dr. Ferreira specializes in the theory of systems and control and its applications in process optimization, robotics and bioengineering. His current research interests are in the optimization and control of distributed multiagent systems and its applications in logistics, urban traffic systems and control of mobile robot formations. Also, in collaboration with the Otoneurology Lab, British Hospital, Uruguay, he has studied the coordination of movements associated to the human gait and posture to contribute in the understanding of the control mechanisms involved in human balance and the aging process, early detection of associated pathologies, development of efficient monitoring, prevention and rehabilitation therapies as well as the optimization of movement coordination for artistic and sport activities.

El Dr. Enrique Ferreira obtuvo su título de grado en Ingeniería Eléctrica en UdelaR, Montevideo, Uruguay en 1993 y de maestría (1995) y doctorado (1998) en Electrical and Computer Engineering en Carnegie Mellon University, USA, en sistemas híbridos bajo la tutela del Prof. B. Krogh. Desde 1998 hasta 2000 realizó un postdoctorado en el Institute for Complex Engineered Systems, en sistemas adaptables con el Prof. P. Khosla. Retornó a Uruguay en 2001 trabajando como docente de tiempo completo en el Instituto de Ingeniería Eléctrica de UdelaR. En 2005 se incorpora a la docencia en UCU donde actualmente es Profesor Investigador de Alta Dedicación del Departamento de Ingeniería y Director del Doctorado en Ingeniería. Tiene más de 70 publicaciones arbitradas, una patente y es socio fundador de SERELabs, un emprendimiento en sistemas de inteligencia artificial en ingeniería. El Dr. Ferreira es miembro nivel II del Sistema Nacional de Investigadores uruguayo.
