Personal profile

Personal profile

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Wellbeing and Health at the Catholic University of Uruguay. I hold a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Sociology from the University of the Republic and a PhD in Biomedicine from Pompeu Fabra University. My professional experience spans over ten years in research and international consulting, specializing in occupational health, social epidemiology, and social determinants of health. I have worked with national institutions such as the Ministries of Public Health and Social Development in Uruguay, as well as international organizations like the Pan-American Health Organization. I am the lead author of several high-impact journal articles and an active member of international academic networks, including GREDS-Universitat Pompeu Fabra and the Karolinska Institute. I am also a categorized researcher in the National Researchers System (ANII).

Research interests

My main field of research focuses on occupational health and well-being and, more broadly, on public health and social epidemiology. In this context, my work is oriented toward analyzing employment and working conditions, understood as social determinants of health and well-being for the working population. I delve into how labor issues, such as precarious employment, psychosocial work risks, and informal employment, can directly impact workers' physical and mental health. I also study how social inequalities (in terms of gender, social class, socioeconomic level, etc.) influence and amplify the impact of working conditions on health and well-being. This approach allows for a better understanding of the mechanisms through which the work environment affects health, supporting the development of effective interventions to address these issues.
