Research interests

His research focuses on the application of business and financial analytics to address problems related to energy and sustainability. He is interested in understanding the effects of new technologies, such as renewables, on electricity markets and analyzing the optimal allocation of these technologies in energy portfolios. For example, he has used optimization to explore and evaluate the financial and environmental implications of the insertion of renewables into the electricity sector, considering investments in community-scale and large-scale projects. He has also been concerned with examining the complementarity between renewable resources at different geographic and time scales and their potential for diversifying energy portfolios. As a result of his research career he has published several papers in leading energy journals such as Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, Renewable Energy, Journal of Cleaner Production, Sustainability, Science, Practice and Policy and International Journal of Hydrogen Energy.

Personal profile

He holds a PhD in Business Economics from Icesi University - Colombia. He is currently a member of the scientific committee of Estudios Gerenciales, a journal of management and economics. He was managing editor of Estudios Gerenciales until July 2023 and during his period the journal moved from Q4 to Q3 in Scopus. He has taught a wide range of courses at undergraduate and graduate level in Colombia and Uruguay, including Business Analytics, capital investment management, optimization, management science and introduction to finance. He was affiliated to Icesi University as a researcher and lecturer from August 2016 to July 2023.
