Research interests

In the area of ​​Communication and Culture, my research currently focuses on the Culture of Democratic Recovery (1983-1993) in Montevideo. This research is located within studies on youth, youth subcultures, countercultures and artistic collectives. Recently I am incorporating the study of digital cultures into the study of youth cultures. In the area of ​​Humanities, I have been researching in the field of Environmental Humanities, particularly notions about natureand sustainability in non-fiction literature in the Río de la Plata basin. At the moment I am analyzing José Manuel Pérez Castellano's Observations on Agriculture (1813) from the notions of metabolic fracture and epistemic fracture.

Personal profile

I am professor, researcher, editor and fiction writer. I got a PhD in Spanish at Rutgers University. My thesis analyzes anarchist culture in the Río de la Plata at the turn of the century, published as Anarquismo en el Novecientos Rioplatense: cultura, literatura y escritura (Montevideo, Hum, 2017). I also obtained two master's degrees (Rutgers Univeristy and University of Leicester) both approved with two theses on science fiction literature. I am editor of Dixit, Communication journal of the Universidad Católica del Uruguay (UCU), undergraduate professor in the Department of Humanities and Communication, and postgraduate professor in the PhD Communication Programme at UCU. I was recently appointed as director of the PhD Communication Programme at UCU. I have published several articles and book chapters on anarchism in the Rio de la Plata fin du siècle culture; youth cultures in the Uruguayan democratic recovery, and ecocritical perspectives in the work of non-fiction authors from the Río de la Plata basin, including Rafael Barrett (Paraguay) and José Manuel Pérez Castellano (Uruguay) As a writer, I have published four novels, three volumes of stories and a book of poetry.
