Research interests

The two areas of research in which I am engaged are Philosophy of Religion and Bioethics. In Philosophy of Religion I particularly study the relationship between faith and reason, between science and religion, both at the historical-philosophical and epistemological levels. I have also worked on the relationship between religion and politics, especially secularism and the place of religions in the public space in plural societies. In Bioethics I am particularly engaged in end-of-life ethics and the bioethics of Palliative Care, especially the conceptual history of the concept of dignity, as well as the principle of autonomy, which are at the basis of contemporary debates on what a “dignified death” means and on patients' rights. I am currently starting research on Artificial Intelligence and Transhumanism, with special interest in neuroethics.
