Research interests

This researcher specialises in palliative care and end-of-life settings, with a focus on socio-health and humanistic aspects. Her research visualises physical care needs, as well as the emotional and spiritual needs of people in advanced stages of illness and their families. She focuses on how socio-cultural environments and health policies influence the quality of this care, prioritising the dignity and preferences of people with serious illness in advanced stages. It is also interested in visualising disparities in access to palliative care, analysing the impact of socio-economic and geographical factors on its availability. In addition, it addresses the challenges associated with ageing and chronic diseases, seeking to improve the quality of life of older people through strategies that promote their autonomy and well-being.

Personal profile

She received her PhD in Medicine from the University of Barcelona (Doctorate with European quality mention), in 2015. She holds a Master's degree in Nursing Sciences from the International University of Catalonia (2011) and a Master's degree in Education from the Catholic University of Uruguay. She was Dean of the Faculty of Nursing and Health Technologies at UCU (2013-2017). She is currently director of the Master in Palliative Care, scientific editor of the journal Humanised Nursing Care, and advisor to the Research Ethics Committee of the UCU. She is a member of the National System of Researchers of Uruguay.
