Graduated from the Universidad de la República and specialized in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Pereira Rossell Hospital Center, where I began my academic career in the Gynecology Academic Unit. I further specialized in gynecologic surgery with an emphasis on laparoscopy, focusing my practice on gynecologic oncology and endometriosis for the past 12 years. I have complemented my training with fellowships at leading institutions such as MD Anderson, Mayo Clinic, Hospital Bellvitge, Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires, and the Instituto del Tumor in Milan, where I completed a Research Fellowship. In 2019, I earned accreditation from ESGO, becoming part of the first generation in Latin America to receive this distinction. I am a founding member and current president of the Uruguayan Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SUGO). Recently, I joined the Department of Medicine at UCU as a PAD/PiAD, with a comprehensive commitment to teaching, doctoral training, research, and academic management.

My research areas include gynecologic cancer, hereditary cancer, gynecologic surgery, and innovation in surgical techniques. I participate in international collaborative protocols in gynecologic oncology, such as INCIP, TUBA WISP II, and the study of RNA as a biomarker in ovarian cancer and endometriosis, contributing to advances in diagnosis and treatment. In gynecologic surgery, I focus on the development and implementation of innovative techniques, including minimally invasive surgery and new therapeutic strategies for endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain. I also investigate the use of medicinal cannabis in this context and its impact on patients’ quality of life. Additionally, I work on training surgeons through simulation and competency-based education, with an emphasis on advanced surgical skills. Finally, I incorporate sustainability in the surgical field, analyzing strategies to reduce the environmental impact of operating rooms.
