Abstract
Access is one of the central dimensions to explain the results in terms of disease treatment and prevention. This article explores spatio-temporal accessibility to pediatric health care in the city of Montevideo. It works with different scenarios generated from basic accessibility parameters: mode of transportation, fixed activities carried out by households and the insurance requirements of a provider to be able to attend a specific clinic. To do so, it uses a novel measure that allows considering the special, temporary and individual variability both in the supply and in the demand for services. Results suggest that mode of transportation, fixed activities of the families and insurance structures have an impact on the levels of accessibility. These results call for a complex approach to understand access, and also serve as an input for policymakers.
