Abstract
The Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) is one of the most widely used instruments in the clinic and research for detecting mental health difficulties in children and adolescents. In order to complete and update the report of previous reviews on the factorial structure of the SDQ, a systematic review was carried out, including instrumental studies with confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) of the version completed by parents of children between 4 and 17 years of age from the general population. Thirty-eight articles with 65 AFC for the 5-factor structure and 23 AFC for the 3-factor structure were identified. Sixty percent of the AFCs for the 5-factor model and 25% of the AFCs for the 3-factor model achieved moderate to excellent fits. The results show the relevance of continuing to investigate the internal structure of the SDQ and analyze in greater depth the behavior of some of its items.
