Abstract
Among alternative publications of Uruguayan post-dictatorship, GAS was well known for its steady permanence, as well as for the integration of its staff, where several of its members and collaborators were also rock musicians or journalists from the mainstream press. This article analyzes the participation of GAS in the emergent Montevideo music scene. Notions of musical scene, alternative publications and generation are presented to analyze footprints of an “authentic” journalistic edition, that is analogue to “authentic” and “spontaneous” rock performances on stage. The success of the magazine is observed, finally, as the outcome of an effective dialogue between post dictatorship generational discourse and elements of punk culture.
