Abstract

This chapter proposes a reconstruction of the map of media education in Uruguay in the last three decades. This refers to a point of departure marked by the end of the dictatorship and the democratic recovery. Since then, the need for educational reform and equity-oriented policies have been constant themes of the public agenda. The historical context, problems that reveal the data on learning, desertion and lag, at the same time as the intense expansion of communication technologies and the reduction of the digital gap in the last decade, all constitute the framework for understanding the trajectory of Media education in the country. Technological and digital literacy, especially from Plan Ceibal, has been the most developed dimension of media education. However, other manifestations and diverse actors, public and private, will be investigated, in which definitions and relevant lines of action have been identified.
