Abstract

Active Electrical Materials (AEMs) are commonly analog circuits that only implement a single function. In this work we present a smart platform that can be used for implementing different and innovative AEMs. The design of a dimmer for LED lighting developed around the smart platform is presented, with simulated and measurement results. The platform works with 70-230Vrms 45/70 Hz while consuming less than 10mW for a typical application. A trailing edge dimmer was implemented around the smart platform, that can be used to dim LED lightning of up to 220W. The smart platform was developed and characterized, including final enclosure that fits on a standard socket, and is currently under production. It can be easily adapted to implement different AEMs, by only changing the firmware or including different peripherals.
