Resumen
In 2007, Uruguay implemented the Basic Computer Education Connectivity Plan for Online Learning, known as Plan Ceibal, which involved providing a computer for every child in public schools. The initiative not only helped to reduce the digital divide, but also benefited the country’s education through Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) promoting equity and social inclusion. The article aims to analyze the implications of the implementation of the Negroponte program “One Laptop per-Child” adapted to Uruguay. It is hypothesized that its implementation not only contributed to reducing the digital divide, but also had favorable results in education. In addition to the specialized bibliographic review, the method of interviewing authorities related to education and Ceibal was used to obtain primary information. The results obtained indicate that throughout its implementation,Plan Ceibal was transformed into a broader program, not only with the digital divide but also playing a significant role in education, for which it was adapting its operating model and institutional.
