Resumen
Justification: to be able to endure a chronic illness is necessary the using of strategies and decision-making, base on family, social and health support that the person with the illness has. Objective: to explore the experience of an adult person with chronic illness. Design: a case study. Methodology: through the observation and indepth interview, with a single unit of analysis. Results: four moments arise well defined: diagnosis, care process, coping and future prospects. In each of these stages the person lives the changes and losses. Conclusion: there is a need for an interdisciplinary approach and appropriate in people with chronic illness at each stage of the illness, and the interventions of professionals at every stage of the life development, to guide the reactions, redirecting behaviors and give a support in making decisions.
