Resumen
The digital transformation process is not recent, but the need to incorporate these tools has sped up, mainly since the pandemic caused by the COVID-19. Given this change, the need to develop digital strategies has emerged as crucial for the governments. These strategies involve multiple challenges such as the investment in infrastructure, the adaptation of the legal system, and the involvement of civil society; all of them require accessibility, training and security. This study aimed to assess Mercosur countries’ digital strategies, digital agendas and programs recently implemented to deal with the digitalization process and the digital asymmetries. The methodology was based on a literature review and analysis of quantitative secondary sources. The study concludes that, although there is a will to advance in this process given the approval of Digital Agendas by the Mercosur´s member States, it is still necessary to implement measures to reduce the digital asymmetries within the bloc and to take joint positions to avoid that these asymmetries negatively impact on intra-bloc trade and Mercosur’s international insertion.
