Resumen
This work describes the design and analysis of an activity for teaching mathematical modelling in first-year Linear Algebra courses using the 'Lights Out!' game. A cohort of 106 engineering students modelled the game's dynamics and implemented solutions in Python and on a physical 4 × 4 board with Arduino and Trellis. We analyse students' productions across the phases of a modelling cycle, identifying strengths and obstacles-particularly in Interpretation-while Validation showed comparatively stronger outcomes. Results support the viability of the proposal for developing modelling competencies in early engineering mathematics.
