Resumen

Uruguayan rock subcultures of the eighties are traditionally considered as anti-political, anti-party and "orphan" from a cultural tradition that would have been denied by its members since it did not represent their concerns during the rampant optimism of the new democracy. However, the activity of some groups that belonged to these subcultures question these traits. The Brigada Luca Prodan actively participated in the rock subculture realm while they did so in the Juventud Socialista del Uruguay to which its members belonged amid major or minor conflicts. Based on personal interviews, this article reconstructs the formation and functioning of the brigada, as well as its gradual distancing from the Partido Socialista. The article also points out new forms of political action in the period carried out by the group in its generational bond with rock subcultures, and questions, consequently, the traits attributed to this subculture as characteristic of an entire generation.
